Description

Recorded, engineered, and produced in Studio 1 and Studio 2 at EastWest Studios, the EastWest Hollywood Pop Brass is a virtual instrument with extensive articulations, 23GB of 24-bit samples, and five independent mic mixes. By recording four- and five-piece brass ensembles in a professional studio, EastWest delivers superior sound quality and attention to detail, ideal for tight, punchy, and dynamic brass.

Hollywood Pop Brass supports operation as a standalone program or as a plug-in (AAX Native, Audio Units, or VST) within your Mac- or Windows-based DAW. It boasts eight types of articulations, multiple dynamic layers, round-robin sample variations, and flexible programming functions.

EastWest Hollywood Pop Brass Features

  • Recorded in Studio 1 and Studio 2 at EastWest Studios
  • Engineered by multiple-Grammy-award-winner Moogie Canazio, who has recorded icons such as Ray Charles, Sarah Vaughan, Diana Ross, Sergio Mendes, Luis Miguel, and many others
  • Produced by Doug Rogers and Nick Phoenix

Multisampled Ensembles

  • 4-piece brass ensemble—two trumpets, a trombone, and a saxophone that alternates between a baritone, tenor, and alto saxophone depending on the note range—for all multisampled articulations
  • 5-piece ensemble—two trumpets, a trombone, and two saxophones that alternate between a baritone, tenor, and alto saxophone depending on the instrument voicing—for all phrases and licks
  • Samples from five independent microphone positions (close, close vintage, mid, mid vintage and main) that can be mixed together to achieve control over both acoustic vantage and spaciousness of the sound
  • Ideal for a tight, bombastic, and dynamic brass section sound

Expressive Articulations

  • Sustain: Contains different types of sustained articulations—fast, medium, and long crescendos, sustain accent, crescendo and diminuendo, and Xfde versions of instruments that use the Mod Wheel (CC 1) to crossfade between dynamics—with two dynamic layers for each articulation and loudness control via Expression (CC 11).
  • Short: Contains a variety of articulations that have round-robin variations and a short duration, including marcato, stabs, staccato, and staccato repetitions. Each articulation uses velocity sensitivity to control dynamics and Expression (CC 11) to control overall loudness
  • Effects: Contains instruments that feature special articulation techniques like falls and rips in various durations, as well as growls and trills. All but growls contain multiple round-robin variations
  • Legato: Contains an instrument that will play back true legato intervals when two notes are played in a connected fashion (legato), for every interval up to and including an octave in either direction. When playing disconnected (nonlegato), a sustain layer will play back
  • MOD Combo: Contains instruments that combine multiple articulations and uses Mod Wheel (CC 1) to select between them. A VS (velocity-sensitive) instrument named HPB Shorts VS MOD.ewi alternatively uses velocity to select between articulations and Mod Wheel (CC 1) to determine dynamics
  • Phrases: Contains instruments that feature phrases and subphrases in various tempos that fit perfectly in the world of pop brass. All were recorded with multiple transpositions and are mapped across the virtual keyboard on respective root note positions for use in a variety of key signatures
  • Licks: Contains 120 BPM instrument performances featuring short licks or motifs that fall into one of six chord types. The Mod Wheel position determines which of the chord types will play back. Each lick has two round-robin variations and is mapped to the key that corresponds to the respective root note position of each chord type
  • Keyswitch: Contains instruments that combine multiple articulations into a single instrument and uses keyswitches to activate the desired articulation
