Description

IK Multimedia Ampeg SVX emulates the world-renowned and well-regarded sound of Ampeg amplifier heads and speaker cabinets, bringing them to you in the digital world. It also provides models of the microphones used to capture these cabinets in the studio, as well as a comprehensive pedalboard with overdrive, wah, chorus, envelope filtering, and more. You’ll even find a digital, accurate, and chromatic tuner.

It is primarily intended to be used with electric basses, though it has been known to sound good on guitars, keyboards, or any signal to which you’d like to lend the sound of an emulated bass amplifier. Indeed, it has been designed with a stereo path to encourage such experimentation.

The software uses Dynamic Saturation Modeling and Volumetric Response Modeling technologies to provide a realistic emulation of Ampeg gear. As such, it is a suitable choice for producers, mixing engineers, and other studio stalwarts looking to impart more mojo upon a relatively dry DI bass tone. It should be noted, however, that integration with IK Multimedia’s series of hardware products offers you the ability to use this software onstage; you can bring the sound of Ampeg hardware to your live gig in a comparatively compact form factor.

The software operates in 64-bit, is compatible with Mac and Windows platforms, and works in Audio Units, VST2, VST3, and AAX formats. It also operates as a standalone application, in which case you’ll have access to a multitrack recorder to capture ideas.

Ampeg SVX Features

Pedalboard with Eight Stompboxes

In this section, you’ll find a selection of bass-tone modifiers in stompbox form. These bass behemoths include the SVX-OD Bass Overdrive, the SVX-OCT Bass Octave, analog chorus, analog delay, envelope filter, bass wah, compressor, and volume pedal. These can be arranged in any order you choose, and they drive the amplifier-head directly. Also, you can assign knobs (parameters) to a controller like the StealthPedal with a simple right-click of the mouse.

Four Modeled Amplifier Heads

The Ampeg SVX provides four amp heads for use: the SVX-500, the SVX-15R, the SVX-CL, and the SVX-PRO. The SVX-CL provides Ampeg’s patented hi- and low-boost buttons, as well as a traditional three-band tone stack with selectable center frequencies, a gain knob, and a master knob. The SVX-15R offers a vintage tube-like tone. The SVX-500 and the SVX-PRO both offer graphic EQ’s alongside their traditional tone stack, though the SVX-PRO also provides onboard compression.

Six Modeled Amplifier Cabinets and Corresponding Microphones

Your choices are as follows: The SVX-810E is modeled on an 8×10 mainstay of major tours, arenas, clubs, and stages. Along with that cab, the SVX-15R, the SVX-410B, SVX-410S, SVX-500, and SVX-212 have all been realistically modeled on their analog forebearers, right down down to the knobs on the back of the unit, which affect the high frequencies. Any cabinet can be mixed and matched with any amplifier head.
