PSP Audioware PSP FETpressor is a plug-in designed to restrict the dynamic range of audio material in a mixing context. This software models a classic circuit topology in the analog realm: FET compression. This circuit can be suitable for both smooth and aggressive purposes.
Use this compressor on vocals, basses, drums, guitars, and more. Any time you want to elicit the sound of a classic 1970s-style compressor, this can be your go-to. You’ll find threshold, ratio, attack, release, input, and output controls, as well as a blend control for parallel compression, a stereo-link switch, and an internal sidechain filter. Use the sidechain high-pass filter to minimize the amount of low-end you feed the compressor, thus reducing any unwanted pumping from things like kick drums or low bass notes.
Note that this is not a transparent compressor: the makeup-gain amplifier and output transformer found in hardware have both been modeled, resulting in colorization even at 1:1 ratio settings. Because there is no audible latency in this plug-in, you can feel safe using it even in live monitoring or when automating the plug-in to MIDI controllers.
This software is compatible with Mac and Windows platforms. It will operate in AU, VST, AAX, and RTAS formats. An iLok account and the iLok License Manager application are required for operating this software, though the iLok dongle itself is not.
