Description

Reason Studios Reason 12 is the latest update to the production powerhouse featuring a virtual studio of synthesizers, samplers, drum machines, and effects, coupled with MIDI and audio tracks, and a dedicated mixer based on the world-class SSL 9000K recording console.

Version 12 introduces several updates and upgrades including the Mimic Creative Sampler, an updated Combinator, high-resolution graphics, and a faster browsing experience. The Mimic Creative Sampler is designed for the modern beatmaker and producer, and features quick and immediate triggering, chopping, and manipulation of whatever inspires you. The updated combinator builds upon the origianal, allowing you to combine your favorite devices into a new customizable panel that can be resized with custom backgrounds, colors, and a ton of custom controls to build your dream machine. The high-resolusiton graphics provide hyper-realistic devices in the Reason Rack, adapting to your workflow with a new zoomable interface. The updated browser provides a fast and efficent browsing experience, allowing you to easily find all your devices, samples, and patches.

Use Reason as a plug-in that’s compatible with most DAWs, or use it traditionally as a standalone production DAW powerhouse. The plug-in allows you to load-up any instrument or effect including Rack Extensions, further unlocking the software’s potential. The components from the SSL-based mixing console are available as individual modules for use anywhere in your signal chain or as a plug-in in other DAWs, including the master bus compressor, channel dynamics, and legendary channel EQ.

The software offers many workflow enhancements including curved automation for smooth mixing, audio-clip crossfades, and improved individual vertical zoom with expanded and per-track zoom level in the sequencer. Mute MIDI notes to try out variations by muting and unmuting individual notes. A new pen tool allows you to draw multiple notes, which greatly speeds up your workflow. Additional features include Show Played and Selected Notes in Key Edit, as well as Absolute Snap, Draw Automation Point at Same Level, and Shortcut for Moving Notes an Octave.

Like rack extensions, which open the Reason rack to third-party developers, Reason 12 now accepts VST plug-ins. Both VST and Rack Extension plug-ins function in a similar manner in that they plug in to the rack but retain the same hierarchy as any other Reason component. Load them into Combinator, route virtual CV cables on the back, automate all parameters, and experiment with the safety of Undo. Reason 12 is compatible with Ableton’s Link technology, allowing you to sync Reason across WiFi to other computers, hardware devices, and portable devices such as phones and tablets. Keep everything in time or change the tempo on the fly without wires or worries.

Users can record to an unlimited number of instrument or audio tracks, and record-ready channels can be created in an instant. A composite editor assists in building the perfect track simply by selecting the parts that work and muting the ones that don’t. Nondestructive time stretching allows for recording first and picking a tempo later, while nondestructive pitch change is done with a mouse click.

The software includes MIDI-out support to bring the sound of hardware synthesizers and beat boxes to the Reason rack. MIDI is handled by an external MIDI instrument device, which is fully integrated into the Reason environment. Automating MIDI equipment from Reason’s sequencer or even from control voltages in the Reason rack is very simple to set up. Additionally, the software can automatically slice audio recordings into single notes or hits for further creative control and to quantize a take, tweak timing to perfection, or drastically change the recording using time stretching. The sliced-up audio can also be converted to REX files for playback and further treatment in Reason’s Dr. Octo Rex Loop Player, samplers, or the Kong Drum Designer.

A fast and flexible sequencer comes with vector and tempo automation, count-in, multiple lane tracks, and Blocks mode. The floating window provides fast access to detailed editing functions that you may use all the time, such as: quantize, transpose, note velocity, note length, and legato. When creating songs, many musicians tend to think of music in terms of intro, verse, chorus, breakdown, and buildup, etc. With Blocks mode, the sequencer allows the sequencing of songs using a pattern-based approach, with the segments of the song laid out in an arrangement as individual building blocks. The ReGroove Mixer is a real-time, nondestructive groove management device that can lock all the tracks together into one unified feel, and allows you to apply different settings to create up to thirty-two musical elements in a song.

Note:  This is an educational package for students, teachers, and accredited academic institutions that requires proof of current educational status.

Softube Guitar and Bass Amplifiers

The Softube Guitar Amp and Softube Bass Amp are amplifier and speaker cabinet simulators based on the renowned modeling algorithms developed by Softube. The two devices feature accurate simulations of some of the most coveted vintage amplifier and cabinet models, that you can freely mix and match.

Guitar Amp Models

  • Twang: a silvery American classic, great for clean and slightly overdriven guitars. Popular for country, blues, and more
  • Crunch: British 60’s classic that keeps its chiming, present character, whether you play it clean, or drive it so hard it’s on the verge of breaking down
  • Rock—a yummy, warm, fat, tube distortion
  • Lead—screaming leads and power chords that sustain for days

Guitar Cabinet Models

  • Bright—2×12 cabinet with deep lows and heavenly highs. The dynamic mic is placed on axis but still lets a hint of room into the sound
  • Room—more midrange present 2×12 with the small-diaphragm dynamic mic placed off-axis and a wide stereo room added
  • Fat—solid 4×12 classic. Captured with a German condenser microphone on axis for that full-bodied sound
  • Tight—slightly midrange-scooped 4×12 cabinet. The large diaphragm dynamic microphone gives an in-your-face presence

Bass Amp Models

  • Modern—contemporary version of a classic tube design from one of the most popular bass amplifier brands. Modern has all the clarity and punch you’d expect from a modern amplifier but still with the pleasant three-dimensionality that well-designed tube amplifiers offer
  • Vintage—gives you a dark, dirty, steamy bass sound that adds power and attitude and helps the bass instrument cut through the mix

Bass Amp Cabinet Models

  • Dark: a classic 8×10 cabinet with a snappy response across the frequency spectrum. Captured with a German large-membrane dynamic microphone, straight on axis for a clear sound and a rock-solid low-end
  • Bright: a British 4×12 bass cabinet with great midrange presence. The dynamic microphone is placed off-axis for a slightly roomy sound
  • Room: A 4×10 cabinet, captured with a German classic large-membrane condenser mic at a distance. Roomy with a nice depth and width that caters for a very natural sound in the mix
